Every day throws jobs at you. Some matter, some are just loud.
This book is how you tell them apart.
The two questions
Before every card, ask yourself two things:
- Does this actually matter? Will skipping it cause a real problem?
- Does it have to be now? Is there a deadline today?
Your two answers point at one corner. That is the whole game.
The four corners
Do NowMatters and due todayPot boiling over. Homework due at 8am.
Do LaterMatters, but not yetExam in 3 weeks. Dentist with no toothache.
Give AwayUrgent, but not yoursThe bin, on your brother's night.
DropNeitherChecking who viewed your story.
The trap everyone falls into
Urgent and important are not the same thing. A buzzing phone feels urgent and almost never is. A big exam feels far away and is the most important thing you own.
Do Later is the corner that changes your life, and it is the one people skip, because nothing bad happens today if you do.
All four corners are live from Level 1. What makes the early levels easy is the cards - Level 1 only deals ones with an obvious answer, and the tricky ones arrive later.
How to play
- A card appears. Drag or flick it into a corner - or tap the corner. On a laptop: Q W A S.
- Get it right and your combo climbs, up to x8. Every card is worth more.
- Get it wrong and the combo drops to x1. That is the real punishment.
- Sort within 1.2 seconds for a Perfect and a big bonus.
- The last stretch of a level is the final rush: double points.
How to pass
One thing decides it: the share you got right. Level 1 needs 60%, and it climbs to 75% by Level 4. Speed only changes your score, never whether you pass.
Every mistake waits on the end screen under What you missed, with the reason. That is the part worth reading.
Special cards
- GOLD Triple points, and a few coins as well. From Level 1.
- ICE Frozen. Tap the card to crack it, then sort it. From Level 2.
- FUSE Burning. Sort it before the fuse runs out, or it counts as a miss. From Level 3.
- SWAP The trays move. Every so often two of them change places. From Level 4.
When you miss
The tray it belonged in lights up while you keep going. Every miss, with its reason, is also kept for the end of the round, under What you missed.
Your gear
- Weapon - more points per card, and harder hits on a boss. A Longsword or better smashes ice in one tap.
- Armour - a shield that covers wrong answers so they do not count. A card that burns out is a wrong answer, so it covers those too.
- Pet - pays extra coins and finds more golden cards, but speeds your clock up. Less time, smaller score. That is the deal.
- Wear all three at once for +25% coins.
Boss fights
A boss sorts the same cards you do, on their own clock. Sort right to hit them, sort wrong and they hit you. Watch the bar under them - when it fills, they swing.
Every boss also has one trick: Steve glues your card down, Carla swaps your trays, Ivan hides the words on them, and Dan sets your cards on fire.
Every day
- Daily Challenge - one round, the same cards for everyone that day. Play it every day to build a streak; the bonus grows with it.
- Missions - three small goals at a time (the target by the cog on the home screen). Finish one and it pays out with that round.
- Badges - for keeps. Every level passed, every boss beaten, a week-long streak.
My List
Type in what is really on your plate this week and sort it with the same four corners. Nobody marks it - only you know your week. What you get is a plan in four piles, and you tick things off as you do them.
Why this game exists
The four corners are the Eisenhower Matrix, and it is taught in management courses to adults who pay for them. There is nothing in it a twelve year old cannot do - the only reason most people meet it at thirty is that nobody showed them at twelve.
That is the gap this is aimed at, and it is why the game is free, runs on any phone, and needs no account to play: UN Goal 4, Quality Education - a life skill, for anyone, at no cost.
If you remember one thing
Loud is not the same as important. Most of what shouts at you today belongs in Drop or Give Away - and the thing that actually matters is sitting quietly in Do Later.
